Are You Equally Yoked?

I made a quick trip to Greensboro on Friday after school to get in a good dose of my Carolina girlfriends! Saturday was a great day of eating, talking, and laughing.  Even though I tried to stay until the very last possible second before heading back to Maryland, I still cried like a baby when it was time to leave them.  We all started working on our Master’s degrees together at UNC-Greensboro almost ten years ago, and our friendship has grown tremendously since then.  Our friendship remains strong because we have a lot in common, yet we all bring something unique to our friendship circle.  Most important, they are Christians!

Enjoying a Blue Crabs game in 2009.

Many people interpret 2 Corinthians 6:14 as a message for couples thinking about marriage, but I also think it’s important for friendships as well.  It says “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers.  For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness?  Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” Are you always giving, giving, and giving in a relationship (or taking, taking, taking)?  When you are too low in spirit to pray for yourself, can you depend on your friends to pray for you?  I am grateful that God made it possible for me to meet and get to know these awesome ladies!  Make sure that you let your “equally yoked” friends know how much you appreciate them!

Peace and Blessings!

  1. Wonderful!!! Glad you had a wonderful time away, you deserve that break. As for that passage of Scripture, you are absolutely correct, not only does it apply to marriage, but it applies to ALL relationships. God bless…

  2. You’re absolutely correct. I’ve never looked at that scripture with any other meaning except for “marriage.” Again, another terrific blog.
Also, I’m glad you had a good time in NC.
