ADHD, anxiety in children, family

Top 5 of 2012: #1

The most viewed post of 2012 is Fact One of my ADHD Awareness Week posts.  Children and adults with ADHD are very uniquely designed people, and I love our uniquely designed Cub 1!

ADHD Awareness Week is October 14 – 20, 2012.  We were chosen to parent a child with ADHD, so this week is all about awareness and giving you a peek into our world.  There are seven facts listed on the ADHD Awareness Week web page that I thought I would share this week – one each day.  Here’s the first fact:

ADHD is real.

Nuff said.

Okay, I do have just one more thing to say about this first fact.  There are some who feel that children with ADHD are just bad kids who don’t have enough discipline.  The real issue is that they have discipline, however they cannot control the impulse to act before thinking sometimes.  That can be a bad thing or a good thing depending on the situation.

A bad thing – being hungry and taking cookies from the teacher’s desk.  The result?  Detention.

A good thing – quick to learn whatever is interesting to them (i.e. science fair).  The result?  Reward and praise.

Oh, we know it is real.  It’s a day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute reality for us.

Peace and Blessings!
