30 days of thanks, being thankful, family

Day 20 of Gratitude

003

Every single morning after returning to the house from dropping off the cubs at school, or leaving the gym, or grocery shopping, Cub 4 climbs into our bed and watches The Smurfs movie…every single morning.  Every morning, she asks, “Mommy, what happened to Papa Smurf?” as if I’ve never answered the question before.  Every morning, she gets excited and says, “Mommy, watch this part! Watch it! You’re not looking!” when Gargamel and his cat interact with each other.  Every single morning, she cracks up – I mean serious belly laughs – like she’s never seen it before!ImageImage

I can’t help but to think about God’s mercy towards us when I watch Cub 4 watching The Smurfs.  In Lamentations, Jeremiah wrote that God’s love for us, His mercy, is new every morning!  What great assurance that is for us!  We can really make a mess of things in our lives, can’t we?  We speak unkind words, think unkind thoughts, and do unkind things knowingly and unknowingly.  Today, I’m thankful that God gives new mercies every morning!  He doesn’t keep tabs.  He loves us and gives us the opportunity to try again as though it’s the very first time we’ve messed up.

When we watch The Smurfs tomorrow morning, I’ll laugh with Cub 4 again, and answer all of her questions again, and I won’t miss any of her favorite parts again…because that’s what God does for me!

Off and Running!

  1. Never thought of it that way. The ability to see a thing fresh every time as though you never saw it before. If each time we looked at our spouses, our kids, our jobs, our relationships, our commitments with the same response as we did the first time what a fresh place this would be. Most of us view things thru a Len that has all the grim of daily life caked on. From now on I will try the cub 4 approach and react like it still brand new.

  2. Thank you. I needed to hear this….”He doesn’t keep tabs. He loves us and gives us the opportunity to try again as though it’s the very first time we’ve messed up.” Today, I’m thankful that God gives new mercies every morning! Thank you. Love you!

  3. Wow! And the children shall lead the way! Evelyn thank you thank you thank you for sharing your cubs with us and showing us the miraculous wonders of God through your eyes! I “really” need that reminder from God. And just like Cub 4 “we” should always be thankful and smile at the wonders of God. Love ya much “First Lady Evelyn”! Cernata
