Back to Basics

This is Day 4 of a 31-Day Series called Bear in Mind: Cubisms.DSC_0014“Yeah.”

“Yep.”

“Mmm hmm.”

“Uh huh.”

“Huh.”

It’s been bad!  Slang, double negatives, and chopped up sentence fragments are driving us crazy!  Our cubs have become so relaxed in how they talk to each other, and to Poppa Bear (PB) and I, that I’ve told them we’re going back to the basics.  They don’t deny knowing the proper responses toward their peers and adults, they just choose not to use their words correctly.

I need to hear more…

“Yes.”

“Yes/No Ma’am/Sir.”

“Please.”

“Thank you.”

“You’re welcome.”

It’s just as much our fault as it is theirs because we’ve gotten lazy with correcting it at home.  Home is more of a relaxed atmosphere.  However, we have had to correct our cubs’ responses to other adults more and more and that’s not sitting well with me.  It’s our responsibility as parents, and sometimes that may mean you have to go back to reminding them continuously of the correct response, or the correct way to say something.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Proverbs 22:6
