Don’t Forget To Remember

This is Day 30 of a 31-Day Series called Bear in Mind: Cubisms.

Poppa Bear and I sort of had a date night last night, I guess.  We decided earlier in the day that we would order some wings and watch the Thursday night football game between the Dolphins (my fave team) and the Patriots.  The cubs ate at our normal dinner time.  We still sat down together for dinner, but when the cubs noticed that we weren’t eating, the questions started.  So, PB explained to them what we were planning to do and Cub 2 said, “Oh. A date night.” Everything else about the evening was normal.  Everyone prepared for school the next day with showers and choosing clothes, and they were in their rooms by 8:30 pm.049

PB and I headed downstairs to watch the frustrating game (Dolphins lost) closer to nine o’clock.  When we went back upstairs to go to bed, everyone was asleep and all seemed to be swell.

This morning, we found out from Cub 1 that the night didn’t go as well as we thought.  Normally, he is the first to go to bed because he is the first to get up each morning.  Unfortunately, Cub 3 couldn’t fall asleep because she knew that we were in the basement.  She wouldn’t let herself fall asleep knowing that we were not in our bedroom like normal.  She imagined monsters under her bed and called on Cub 1 for comfort.  After several failed attempts to get Cub 3 to go to sleep on her own, Cub 1 stayed up with her until she fell asleep.  When we were discussing the matter this morning, Cub 1 said, “Well, I remember being the same way.  She’s just like me, so I knew how she felt.”

I love it!  Showing a little empathy towards his little cub sister, even though he had to be up early this morning, reminded me that it’s important that we don’t forget.  Some of what we experience in our past happened for the sole purpose of being able to help someone else who is going through the same thing.  Your testimony could be exactly what they need to get them through another day.

“Here is a simple, rule-of-thumb guide for behavior: Ask yourself what you want people to do for you, then grab the initiative and do it for them.  Add up God’s Law and Prophets and this is what you get.” Matthew 7:12 MSG
